WHAT IS HYBRID

APPAREL PRINTING?

The Digital Squeegee hybrid system prints Eco-friendly water-based inks that are traditionally printed (with screens) onto the shirt to provide a nice white base layer. Next, the digital image is quickly printed onto the white base using a whopping 16 advanced digital print heads. Lastly, a clear Topcoat is applied to lock in those colors to provide superior wash fastness.

WHAT IS HYBRID

APPAREL PRINTING?

The Digital Squeegee hybrid system prints Eco-friendly water-based inks that are traditionally printed (with screens) onto the shirt to provide a nice white base layer. Next, the digital image is quickly printed onto the white base using a whopping 16 advanced digital print heads. Lastly, a clear Topcoat is applied to lock in those colors to provide superior wash fastness.

Why is Hybrid Printing better?

  • With the Digital Squeegee, you are not limited to the number of colors you can use in your design. Hybrid allows for large runs of beautiful, full-color artwork.
  • Traditional simulated process printing uses 8-12 different colors printed on top of each other to “simulate” the full-color range. This typically shows larger visible halftone dots and can lead to color changes throughout the print run as the wet inks mix together.
  • With Hybrid printing using the Digital Squeegee, your design printing at 300 dpi (versus 50-60 with traditional screens) will come out crisper and cleaner than you can imagine.

“Is Hybrid Printing Better for the Environment?”

You bet it is!

  • Brands and global retailers are becoming more and more concerned with their environmental image and are demanding their suppliers are also more environmentally conscious.

  • While most plastisol inks are now phthalate-free, that still doesn’t make them the most eco-friendly option out there. Being made from a mixture of PVC resin and plasticizer, they’re still far from being environmentally friendly at all. Water-based inks, on the other hand, are completely free of PVC resin or plasticizer.

  • The Digital Squeegee hybrid print system uses the world’s most eco-friendly GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standards) certified organic, vegan, water-based inks. These inks offer the softest and most durable prints possible. The water-based organic inks are not only better for the environment, but they’re also better for your skin and are more comfortable to wear.
    These specially formulated hybrid inks do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFCs, HCFCs, aromatic hydrocarbons or volatile solvents. They are also free of lead, heavy metals and other toxic chemicals.

  • Waterbase inks are also easier to clean up after printing and require no chemicals to do so – just water. This keeps potentially harmful substances from our waste water supply. And responsible shop disposable of waste water-based ink is imperative to keeping our environment clean.

DTG printing is great if you need one shirt to wear a couple of times. But the Digital Squeegee hybrid system offers so many benefits:

Superior Wash Fastness

Typically, DTG printing starts to fade and crack after just a few washes. This is due to the pretreatment that has to be applied to the shirt before printing ever happens. With hybrid printing, you get screened bases like traditional printing that allows the design to last 50 washes and on.

DTG can’t print on most synthetic materials very well without severe fading.  But with hybrid, 100% poly performance shirts and fleece are easily attainable with the incorporation of bleed blocking inks laid down with the printed bases.

Most DTG machines take several minutes to print one shirt.  This is NOT efficient for larger digital runs.  The Digital Squeegee hybrid system can print up to (and beyond in some cases) 400 shirts an hour!

Most DTG can only offer CMYK printing and therefore can’t hit some colors perfectly. For those super stringent jobs that need exact Pantone matches, a spot screen can be added in the print run to achieve that goal. Glitter, shimmer, puff, foil. These special effects can also be attained using Hybrid Printing.

Hybrid printing allows the artist to take a simple low-color design and turn it into a full-color masterpiece. Dynamic art brings more attention to printed apparel pieces.

The average human eye can visualize 170 dpi at a 20” distance.  The typical traditional screened t-shirt is printed between 40-60dpi.  That leads to lots and lots of dots on the shirt that is visually unpleasant and noticeable. The Digital Squeegee prints at 300dpi creating indistinguishable color printing of your design.

Traditional plastisol inks are basically liquified plastic.  During the course of a print run, these inks can start to mix together on the screens causing a color shift in designs. Muddied prints are no good.  The Digital Squeegee prints the exact original image from the first print to the last one.

Have you ever wanted to change color or aspects of your design within the same print run?  Variable Data printing with the Digital Squeegee allows multiple different images to be printed onto the same screened bases.  Now you can break up those larger runs with different options within your artwork.
